Wish I liked it more.

It’s hard for me to write this review because I wanted to love this book, and a part of me wonders if I didn’t like this book because it’s not the type of book I prefer to read. Some people like to read romances where the overcoming of obstacles is the main part of the book with the finale being the couple coming together in a relationship. I tend to like books where a relationship occurs and then they grow as a couple. This book falls in the first category.

When I came across Parker in Attraction, it was instant LOVE. To quote Disney’s Cinderella, the secret to a good life is to be kind and to be courageous. I think that’s the secret to a great heroine too. In Attraction, Parker was kind and courageous. She went outside of her comfort zones (of a lab closet) to attend a frat party and warned Martin of a nefarious plan. Absolutely loved her for embracing change with� rational and zainy. Then, in Heat, it was almost a mental game. There was a push/pull relationship with lots of heat. And now with Capture, I wonder where the Kaitlin I fell in love with went. She was fearful. She hid from the fear of rejection, and she was obtuse to the situation. And in a way, Martin’s mind games didn’t help Parker’s faith in him either.�

I’m use to Penny Reid writing books about smart, quirky women over coming fears and fighting for their happily ever after. With this book, Kaitlin Parker was intelligent and she was quirky, but she lacked the courage and tenacity that her fellow heroines had.�

Martin, Martin, Martin.

If you are familiar with this trilogy, then you know that book 1, Attraction, introduced us to Kaitlyn Parker and Martin Sandeke, fabulous collegiate chem partners turned spring break vacationers with a heavy dose of mutual attraction. In book 2, Heat, this attraction turned red hot as Kaitlyn and Martin coaxed their relationship into heated passion. But then the unthinkable happened, and we were left heart-broken alongside them in a wretched cliffhanger.

But all the waiting was completely worth it. Even though all three books are now out, I still highly recommend taking even a small break (at least a few days to a week) between books. There is something necessary about this timely pause to let the previous events simmer, yet also prepare you for the next stage in Martin and Kaitlyn's relationship. Each book is its own personality, and each stage allows Martin and Kaitlyn to grow in incredible ways. So just as their journey needed its own "breaks," so also do we so we can be even more impacted by their conclusion.

Having said all that, all the intense anxiety I felt throughout this book was completely worth it. I was so excited to fill myself up with Martin and Kaitlyn, having not a clue how things would turn out, except desperately hoping for a happy ending. As the synopsis reveals, K&M have been apart for months. From Kaitlyn's perspective, she has been trying to heal and move on from her love for Martin, and at the same time she has been exploring a new side to her that Martin brought out, the confidence and vision for her musical side. When Kaitlyn sees Martin again, we learn that he has also been busy these last months, but the specifics of what or why remain elusive until the details are slowly revealed.

What is not slowly revealed, but glaring obvious, is that these two are not done. Not by a long shot. The sparks may have been ignored, but they were not forgotten. But Martin's approach to Kaitlyn is all new. Which is good because Kaitlyn and Martin are also new. And I loved their story. Yes, I may have trembled with anxiety and anticipation. Yes, my stomach may have been was in knots. Yes, I may have swooned over a certain someone and all his yummy awesomeness. Yes, I may have smiled and sighed and cheered and fanned myself. But I cannot go into great detail with what actually happens. That is something you will want to enjoy all on your own!

I also deeply loved Kaitlyn & Martin. Penny Reid develops characters beautifully, and K&M are two characters you can tell she put her heart and soul into. They are so well thought out, and in this final book, their transformation and maturity is amazing. And I have to say that Martin steals the show a bit here. Seriously, if you were on the fence at all about Martin in the previous books, you won't be after this. I loved Martin! And then having K&M together... All the feels!!

I loved Capture and loved the entire Elements of Chemistry trilogy. I miss Martin and Kaitlyn already, and hope they appear somewhere in something at sometime in some way in the future, the near future, because I loved them so.

Pretty Good, but,,,

I liked the book, loved the ending. The writing was still very good. I still really enjoyed Martin & Kaitlin, and loved their banter, but.....it was a bit frustrating. For two people who were usually very candid and blunt, they went round & round with each each other never admitting how they really felt about each other...time and time, and yes, time again. I personally like for my couples to be together, I want my "couple time"-lots of it, not at the very end.

About the Author
Mary Ann Blitt began her Spanish studies at the age of 13 while living in Madrid, Spain. She received her B.A. in Spanish from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and after spending a year studying at the Universidad de Granada, she returned to the university to obtain a teaching certificate. She later attended Colorado State University, where she received her master's degree in Spanish with interdisciplinary studies in French. After teaching Spanish at Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods in Kansas City, and coordinating the Study Abroad Program there for several years, she joined the faculty at College of Charleston in 2014. Mary Ann is actively involved in professional development workshops; she travels whenever possible; and she has studied in Spain, Mexico, France, and Canada. She also has trained teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Asuncion, Paraguay.

Margarita Casas was born in Mexico City, Mexico. She completed her bachelor's degree in sciences and techniques of communication in Guadalajara, Mexico. She holds two master's degrees from Colorado State University, one in Spanish literature with an emphasis on education, and the other in Teaching English as a Second Language. Currently, she is an instructor of Spanish at Linn-Benton Community College, where she served as Foreign Language Department chair for 11 years. She has collaborated on two textbooks prior to EXPLORACIONES and has published a novel, Italia En Cuatro Estaciones, winner of the first Literature contest of the Universidad de Guadalajara. She is an avid traveler who hopes to inspire her students to travel and see the world by themselves.

A must have for trauma medicine

This is my second go to book. It's great while learning cardiology and trauma medicine. The heart itself can be a very complex and complicated organ and EKGs might feel intimidating at first but this book alongside classroom education, hands on education, pharmacology and your main trauma medicine book , are your survival guides. The layout is perfect, easy to find things, easy to add stick notes or your own handwritten notes. Cardiology changes with AHA every once in awhile but this book versus the most recent has no dramatic changes, so if I lost this book I'd feel comfortable buying the year of this book again. The pages don't bend or tear which is nice conclsidering the book is 5 years old and yes it took me 5 years to write a review but all the better because I can say it is durable and up to date with current standards.

I bought this to update from the 2000 version. A handy reference and easy to bring along, with tons of useful information and flowcharts. Is also helpful when reviewing for ACLS re-certification.

I wish more books were like this one.

A wonderfully straight -forward how-to book on the technicalities and the various methods of binding books. Concentrates exclusively on stitching, introducing many methods unfamiliar to me that are both beautiful and practical. The instructions and drawings are clear uncluttered and easy to follow. The photo's are basic but intended to inform rather than the seduce the unaware into a purchase. It contained everything I needed to know. I wish more books were like this one.

Great book!!

My boss bought a copy of this book for the graphics department (an old edition). I read a few paragraphs and flipped through the pages for a few minutes, then got on Amazon and ordered my own copy. The book would make a fantastic text book for a book making class. It goes into great detail, yet allows for creativity. I'd recommend it highly.

Excellent resource for book artists

I enjoy journaling on blank pages and subsequently binding them into journals. Keith Smith's book on non-adhesive binding is an excellent resource for learning non-conventional binding and book structures.

I enjoyed the book so much, I eventually made mock-ups of nearly every project in this book AND went on to worth through several other of Smith's books.

Smith provides many basic/general techniques in the front of the book followed by specific "recipes." He provides both creative suggestions for content and technical information on structure and assembly. Smith also provides sample photographs of each binding.

One minor criticism: many of the projects suggest using very heavyweight paper--almost watercolor paper--instead of textweight or lightweight. I had to tweak the instructions for binding the lightweight paper I use for journaling.

I purchased this informative and clearly stated book for my Kindle. I really appreciated the simplicity of the writer. Although I only have five clients as ministers, this book guided me through a lot of unanswered questions that usually takes me thirty to forty minutes to decipher when I go to the IRS.gov website. Garry Kasparov is generally regarded as the greatest chess player ever. He was the thirteenth world champion, holding the title between 1985 and 2000. His tournament record is second to none, featuring numerous wins in the world's elite events, often by substantial margins. Over the last few years, Kasparov has taken first prize in ten consecutive major international events.
This book has been written by the 13th world champion together with chess master and journalist Dmitry Plisetsky, for many years deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine Shakhmaty v SSSR/Rossii, and the author of a large number of articles, as well as the books Tekhnika zashchity (1985), David Janowski (1987) and Russians v Fischer (1994).

A Qualified Success

This book provides an excellent discussion of the development and rise of these two champions. There is a lot of narrative history and illustrative games annotated (quite deeply) by Kasparov with help from computer software. The games are a who's who of the greats in history, including the two principals and Tal, Korchnoi, Portisch, Fischer, Polugayevsky, Stein, Geller, Kasparov himself, and Larsen et al. Interestingly, both Spassky and Petrosian defeated Kasparov twice in tournament play (something I was unaware of) and all these games are presented.

As with all of Kasparov's books, the print quality is excellent, and there are a lot of diagrams presented within each game.

Where the book is deficient, however, is what it leaves out. There is no discussion at all about Spassky's world title match with Fischer in 1972 (or their match in 1992)-you have to buy his book on Fischer for that. Even so, Kasparov should have included and annotated games 15 and/or 18 from the 1972 match (which are not included in the Fischer book), and a couple of Spassky's games from the 1992 match . Likewise, there is no coverage of Spassky's 1977 Candidate's match with Korchnoi-you have to buy his book on Korchnoi/Karpov for that; even so he should have included a couple of games from this match that are not in the Korchnoi/Karpov book (there are plenty to chose from, it was an epic battle). Also missing in the Petrosian section is any game coverage of his Candidate's matches with Korchnoi in 1977 and 1980, which is curious, since none of these games is in the Korchnoi/Karpov book either.

I was stunned

I initially bought this book because I wanted to acquire a collection of Petrosian games that were well annotated. I figured Kasparov would be a good annotator :-)

What I found out is that the section on Petrosian (181 pages) is one long story, where Kasparov shows how ideas were formed, tested adopted, refuted and so on. Throughout the weaving of the progression of chess ideas during Petrosian's time, he incrementally adds to Petrosian's life to give the reader a complete picture of him.

This is unlike any other chess book I've purchased, and I was amazed once I figured out what I was reading. I was stunned at how readable it is at one level, although you could spend hours on each game if you delve into all of the analysis.

Probably a great book...for experts.

I bought this book because I'm a big fan of Petrosian and wanted the great Kasparov's insight into "Iron Tigran's" slippery positional style. I was expecting Kasparov would explain the logic and strategic goals behind Petrosian's sometimes mystifying moves and he does that...to some extent. However, for the most part, he provides strings of variations. In fact, the analysis for many of the games consists almost entirely of variations with very little prose at all.

He does provide a bit of biographical bio on Petrosian, as well as on Spassky, Gligoric, Polugayevsky, Portisch, and Stein which I enjoyed, Overall, I must admit I was disappointed as this isn't the book I thought I was buying. I'm sure it's a good book, but he was apparently writing for his fellow masters more so than for a club player striving to join their ranks.

If, like me, you're looking for an analysis of Petrosian's style that explains his ideas, I highly recommend Peter H. Clarke's classic work, "Petrosian's Best Games of Chess 1946-1963".

About the Author
"Barry Render" is the Charles Harwood Distinguished Professor of Management Science at the Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. He received his M.S. in Operations Research and his Ph.D. in Quantitative Analysis at the University of Cincinnati. He previously taught at George Washington University, the University of New Orleans, Boston University, and George Mason University, where he held the GM Foundation Professorship in Decision Sciences and was Chair of the Decision Science Department. Dr. Render has also worked in the aerospace industry for General Electric, McDonnell Douglas, and NASA.

Professor Render has co-authored ten textbooks with Prentice-Hall, including "Managerial Decision Modeling with Spreadsheets, Operations Management, Principles of Operations Management, Service Management, Introduction to Management Science," and "Cases and Readings in Management Science." His more than one hundred articles on a variety of management topics have appeared in "Decision Sciences, Production and Operations Management, Interfaces, Information and Management," the "Journal of Management Information Systems, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences," and "Operations Management Review," among others.

Dr. Render has also been honored as an AACSB Fellow and named as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in 1982 and again in 1993. He was twice vice-president of the Decision Science Institute Southeast Region and served as Software Review Editor for Decision Line from 1989 to 1995. He has also served as Editor of the "New York Times" Operations Management special issues from 1996 to 2001. Finally, Professor Render has been actively involved inconsulting for government agencies and for many corporations, including NASA; the FBI; the U.S. Navy; Fairfax County, Virginia; and C8zP Telephone.

He teaches operations management courses in Rollins College's MBA and Executive MBA programs. In 1995 he was named as that school's Professor of the Year, and in 1996 was selected by Roosevelt University to receive the St. Claire Drake Award for Outstanding Scholarship.

"Ralph Stair" has been Professor of Management Science at Florida State University for twenty years and is now entering its phased retirement program. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Tulane University. Under the guidance of Ken Ramsing and Alan Eliason, he received his Ph.D. in operations management from the University of Oregon.

He has taught at the University of Oregon, the University of Washington, the University of New Orleans, and Florida State University. He has twice taught in Florida State University's Study Abroad Program in London. Over the years, his teaching has been concentrated in the areas of information systems, operations research, and operations management.

Dr. Stair is a member of several academic organizations, including the Decision Sciences Institute and INFORMS, and he regularly participates at national meetings. He has published numerous articles and books, including "Managerial Decision Modeling with Spreadsheets, Introduction to Management Science, Cases and Readings in Management Science, Production and Operations Management: A Self-Correction Approach, Fundamentals of Information Systems, Principles of Information Systems, Introduction to Information Systems, Computers in Today'sWorld, Principles of Data Processing, Learning to Live with Computers, Programming in BASIC, Essentials of BASIC Programming, Essentials of FORTRAN Programming, and Essentials of COBOL Programming."

Professional, interesting and comprehensive!

As someone who has taught Operations Management since Spring semester, 1980 following fifteen years in operations management in the steel industry, I've had the opportunity to review a large number of textbooks in this area. Without exageration, this is the most comprehensive, "user friendly" text that I have found. The illustrations, practice problems, power point slides and text book web site are great. Student comments have been very positive.
I strongly urge my colleagues who teach Operations Management to give this book a very serious look.

Amazing, most practical book at college education

I am using this book for my business class. This book will teach you in-depth principles and skills on how you can manage business operations with a lot of mathmatical skills.

I feel that this book is great because it is very well organized and easy for readers to read. It has graphs and visual aids all over and CD materials for students to go through problems.

By learning this book, readers can not only gain the knowledge on business operation, but they can also have actual skills in operation management.

Buy this book if you are interested in this subject.

A well-done text w/ plenty of support

I'll make two separate sets of comments - one for professors and one for students.
Students first... There is a well-done website that accompanies the book, which includes outlines, sample tests & quizzes, and related study materials. The text is about average in terms of readability in comparison to other texts on the subject, and there are plenty of real-world examples to illustrate OM concepts (OM texts, as a general rule, don't read well). You may be able to get by with a previous edition if the textbook contents are your priority, but be advised, however, that the seventh edition contains some new and revised material, a few chapters have been re-arranged, and there are some different end-of-chapter exercises and cases.
For professors... You are probably already aware that OM can be challenging for the professor as well as the student, esp. with respect to where to aim the course - to the managers and generalists, or to the technicians & quantitatively-oriented. Heizer and Render have enough material to support either approach. The text is accompanied with ample instructor resources, including a CD and a website with slideshows, notes, outlines, and various other pedagogical tools. The testbank is easy to use, but should be supplemented with some quantitative short problems (if a quantitative approach is important to you).
Heizer and Render have also done a fair job of keeping the material up-to-date, which has resulted, after seven editions, in a pretty decent product. For me, the instructor resources and the comprehensiveness of the content (adequate support for either a managerial or quantitative approach) make Heizer and Render a good choice by comparison to other OM texts.
