part one was so amazing that I couldn't put it down

Part two of an incredibly hot lesbian erotica trilogy! I don't always read on to part two, but in this case, part one was so amazing that I couldn't put it down!

Again, just amazingly relatable characters, lots of sexy scenes, and more of a storyline than one usually sees in shorts.

Highly recommend, can't wait to read more from this author!

The action is typically non-stop, with the usual lesbian climaxes. Nothing surprising, not particularly erotic. The author writes well, no weird sentence structures often found in Indian stories. It appears parents still try to match up their children in India, mostly for economic reasons, not love. This tradition is dying out. At this college, women are taught to assert their freedom.

Simple recipes that extremely disappointed me but not my boyfriend

I had high hopes for this Christmas cookie book but I'm extremely disappointed.

My first mistake is that I did not realize this book was by Betty Crocker before I selected it. This means practically all (about 80%) of the recipes require using one of their products such as:
- Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix
- Betty Crocker chocolate chunk cookie mix
- Betty Crocker peanut butter cookie mix
- Betty Crocker Gluten-Free chocolate chip cookie mix
- Original Bisquick mix
- Bisquick Gluten-Free mix
- various containers of frosting
- etc.

Second, the two recipes I did try were the ones that did not require their product. However, those recipes were not tasty at all. First I made the Raspberry-Pistachio Thumbprints. I followed the recipe precisely. Even though there was a full cup of butter in the recipe, the dough came out crumbly and dry. It was difficult to keep the cookie from falling apart on the cookie sheet. However, they did bake out almost like the picture (all pictures are black and white, by the way) except mine were not as round. I then added the jam after the cookies cooled. I substituted a flavor of jam I would like, which the recipe suggested. However, the only thing good about the cookie was the jam. It had no taste to me and I plan on throwing them out unless I can get my boyfriend to eat them.

Next I made the Cherry-Topped Chocolate Tassies. Once again the dough appeared very dry but it did mold very well. The tassies baked up exactly like the picture. I felt like I was doing surgery to get them out of the mini-cupcake pan because they are very delicate as the recipe says. After they cooled, I tried two. I tried one that was just cooled and another that was refrigerated a while. Once again, I didn't like them. The chocolate filling and cherry was tasty but the dough tasted awful to me just like the dough in the above recipe. They are very pretty though and a bit more eatable. I think I can get my boyfriend to eat these without complaint although I might just eat the innards and throw away that crust.

I was going to give this book one star but I bumped it up to two stars because it's not Betty Crocker's fault that I selected a book that requires brand name store bought products. However, I'm extremely disappointed in the recipes I tried.

The good points of the book are as follows:
- the recipes are easy to make
- most recipes require few ingredients
- the end results are pretty (at least both of mine were)
- there are some good baking tips in the book
- calorie and nutrition information accompanies each recipe

Since I did recieve a pre-release copy of this book, there are a few editing or printing mistakes and one weird example for a cookie book that mentions "3 to 3-1/2 pound whole chicken" in the calculation of nutrition section. In my opinion, they need to use a pastry example for this.

Unfortunately, this book is going into the recycling pile. However, for those who like quick recipes which use brand name ingredients, look pretty, and appeal to those who care least about taste, then this book may be for you. I am use to baking from scratch with the freshest ingredients. Many people have raved about items I've baked previously; however, the two recipes I tried are not the quality I am use to.

Sept 1, 2013 UPDATE: I had my boyfriend try both of the cookies I made and he LOVES them. He gives them 5 stars both for taste and presentation. His favorite was the Raspberry-Pistachio Thumbprints (the ones I absolutely hated) and then the Cherry-Topped Chocolate Tassies (which I also did not like, but liked better than the thumbprints). The cookie part of each one reminds me of the Walker's butter cookies so I asked him if they reminded him of those and he said yes. This explains why I can't stand the cookies and he loves them. The cookie part taste similar to Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread Robert Burns Tin (Assorted), 10.6-Ounce.

Since I had a lot of cookies, I also shared some with another friend who loves Walker's shortbread cookies. She said the Cherry-Topped Chocolate Tassies were too sweet for her and would rate them 3 stars but the Raspberry-Pistachio Thumbprints were 5 stars to her. She also shared the cookies with two other friends and one friend said the following about the thumbprints (and I quote) "Oh my goodness it was to die for!!! May I have the recipe?" She also titled her email to me "Your cookies were amazing!" Since she was not a chocolate person, she did not rate the tassies but the title still says a lot.

In summary, it appears if you like shortbread / butter cookies, you'll like these two recipes at least. Since this is my review and how I liked the cookies and the book, this book is 2 stars to me. However, the other 4 people who tried what I made loved the thumbprints the most and the tassies second and, in my opiniion, these 4 people would have rated this book between 4 to 5 stars had they been the reviewer.

Sept. 8, 2013 Update: Last week I had two other people try these cookies and they absolutely loved them. They especially loved the thumbprints but did say both were good. Therefore, I have not found anyone but me who disliked these cookies.

Some very easy and delicious recipes

I ran across this book at my cousin's house. She had just bought it so she could incorporate some fun new recipes into her holiday cookie baking. Thumbing through it, I just loved the pretty pictures and yummy sounding cookies, so I went ahead and purchased one when I was at my local bookstore the following weekend. I have tried out some cookie recipes and not been disappointed. My favorite so far were the Choclate Hazelnut Cookies (it calls for a cup of Nutella- yes please!) What I loved about this cookbook is that many recipes call for packaged cookie mixes as a base- making these cookies simple and afforadable, since the cookie mixes are always on sale around Christmas. I can easily get a batch of cookies done after a long workday when it calls for the cookie mix, since it's simple and quick, so I do enjoy these recipes. Also those recipes that do call for the cookie mixes definitely add enough ingredients to give the cookies a wow factor when finished- whether it be in flavor or in presentation/decoration. Next up for me is some adorable "Jolly snowman faces" cookies for my nephew- also a simple recipe- but with candy decorations that make the cookies fun and eye catching.

So now the negative- the binding of this book is such that pages are going to fall out with prolonged use. I find that to be an issue with many cookbooks- if you lay them flat on the counter to read the recipe eventually the pages start to fall out. Also, you can find many of the recipes (including my favorite Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies) right on the Betty Crocker website, so it's not exactly necessary to buy this book. I have searched a few recipes from this cookbook and actually ALL the ones I have looked for so far have been on there. But it IS a very pretty book (it would make a lovely gift for an avid baker) and many recipes are delicious, so it's definitely not a waste.

Tried and True - Super Easy Too

These cookies are excellent any time of the year. What BC has done here is brought us some of their most popular recipes in a more festive theme. Although it says cookies, it's really much much more than that. Included are cupcakes, tassies and bars. I think the bar recipes really shine because there are some really thinking out of the box style recipes. Such as the Baklava Bars. They are not only visually beautiful, but if you enjoy lots of nuts this is delicious. The recipes ues walnuts, but you can easily use pistachio or almonds if you like.

Some of the recipes rely on a BC mix, such as the sugar cookie mix to make it easy for those who want a semi homemade approach. There are also completely by scratch recipes as well. For those with gluten intolerances there are even a few recipes using their gluten free mix as a base. If someone isn't on a gluten free diet, they should still consider the recipe, because many of these gluten free items are just as good and sometimes better than gluten recipes.

There is a color picture for every recipe. Many of the recipes you can make your own as well. The chewy Raspberry Almond Bars are oatmeal based and you can easily swap out the reasberry jam for your favorite flavor. My favorite is the Elegant Almond Bars. However, the almond paste is a bit pricey.

Overall, a beautiful variety of small baked goods, easy enough to make something really good for any event or personal gathering (or just for YOU!)

It's Art Over Story Here

Much more interesting for the art work and coloring than the story itself; don't know if the Dr. will ever get his due as far as storylines go but this is worth picking up and studying the artwork a few times once you've read over the plot.

Doctor is more important than Strange.

Brian Vaughn's offbeat humor plays well in this Doctor Strange miniseries. With Strange wounded and Wong sick Midnight Nurse joins them to track down a treatment for Wong's ailment. The story is long on medical and insurance jokes that are truly funny; even superheros need insurance. Of course no Doctor Strange story would be complete without a grave moral choice in the third act. While you can see the ending coming an issue before it happens, it is sill satisfying and true to Strange's style. . The art is good, not the best Doctor Strange you'll see but still bight and vibrant. While this is perhaps a bit short it is still a fun adventure comedy.

Of all the Vogue books, this one reveals the magazine at its most creative. Poznick's vison is original. The collection of photos here are the ones that I plucked from the pages of Vogue and plastered over my desk for inspiration. Color saturated shots and use of of negative space....completely new. Dazzling, diabolical, and wildly romantic viewpoint. And I will always love "Football Face"!

Excellent book of the nitty-gritty of Child Welfare practice

I've recently come across this book from England, which, unlike most of the child welfare literature focusing on policy and legal issues, gets into the nitty gritty of working in child welfare, both in terms of investigation and prevention. Ferguson calls this work "intimate child protection" and the complex relationships between social workers, children and families are discussed in detail, including the sensitive issues involved in abuse/neglect investigations and home visiting. The book is sprinkled with numerous case vignettes and references are made to Bion and the Winnicotts.

Check out the Table of Contents (in "search inside this book") which has such evocative chapter titles as "Bedrooms, Kitchens and More Intimate Spaces" and "The Car as a Space for Therapeutic Practice". And read the "first pages" (actually the introductory chapter) to get a flavor for Ferguson's evocative writing style.

Although the author is British, the book is quite accessible for US readers, especially social workers in child welfare and social work students. The book would make an excellent text in graduate social work programs.

Deftly informative, possibly readable

Undoubtedly, this book has a lot of useful information in it. I will grant it that.
Useful information for me? Not so much.
I am a.. how shall I put it.. willing servant of both alcohol and literature. As such, I figured these pages would simply have me at the throat in some ill-phrased analogy to deem the book "gripping." It did not meet such standards. I've picked it up, and put it down in uncountable repetitions and am nearing on the fading light of last chance.
I have read plenty of rather heady pieces similar to this and my opinion remains the same: "THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC—if you give a rat's ass what they're talking about." While this book did not quench my love for beer, it lies with my misgivings that it was clearly not meant to.
If you are looking to learn about hops, their history, and desire an ironically dry prose, this book is indispensable.
Though it is not, on its own, a pleasurable read.

Great for the Hop Hugger, Little Use to the Hop Brewer

As a homebrewer, I have discovered my true love in the dedicated creation of a beer recipe. I am content spending hours researching a style, then researching the ingredients relevant to that style, and lastly the brewing techniques necessarily to pay homage to that style.

Ray Daniels writes an excellent book in which a very systematic and scientific approach is taken to determine the ingredients of a recipe. However, he tends to hurry over the hops section, merely suggesting a "family" of hops to choose from and a final bitterness to aim for. And so I turned to this book with the intention of filling in the blanks.

The truth is, anyone can brew a bitter beer. Toss in a ridiculous amount of relatively expensive brewing hops, and pretty much anyone can appease a non-educated, untrained individual who fancies himself a "hop head."

Find someone however who understands the intricate nuances in a beer such as Heady Topper, or Pliny the Younger, and suddenly a "butt load of hops" doesn't work anymore.

The biggest challenge really lies beyond the ":30" timer. A lot of what the brewer does in relation to hops rests not only in the last 30 minutes of the boil, but in the precious days and potentially months between the time the heat is shut off, and the cap is popped off.

I turned to "For the Love of Hops", hoping for critical information on the nitty gritty details of flavoring with hops - should one use more for less time, or less for more time? How much dry-hopping is necessary? What are rules of thumb for duration and quantity? And how about some better information on the hop varities besides "citrusy and piney"?

Unfortunately, FTLOH did little to aid me in this quest. Some of the poorly-received 3-star reviews on Amazon actually hit the nail on the head quite well. Sad to see "fanboyism" take place with a brewing book.

Hieronymus's writing is quite difficult to follow, and knowledge useful for a brewer is sporatic at best. Most disappointing in my opinion was the chapter on dry-hopping. Arguable one of the most signifcant steps to adding hop character to a beer, we're given 19 pages of text containing a myriad of stories from various brewers on the topic, none of which relate even the slightest to the modern homebrewer. There is extremely little guidance on the practice, and even fewer suggestions on how one should perform the method, especially on a smaller, at-home scale. The most useful piece of knowledge I absorbed from the entire chapter was on page 216: "New Belgium found that ceiling [for volume of added dry hops] at 35 kilograms in 100 hectoliters (comparable to about nine-tenths of a pound per barrel." There you have it. I may have just saved you $15 bucks...

Even his chapter on hop varities, titled "The Hop Store" provides little more knowledge of use than is available on nearly any brewing-focused website or application. Each hop variety is given a one-sentence historical reference - honestly useless to the homebrewer - and SOMETIMES a few words describing it's flavor and/or aroma. Sometimes we get little more than "Relatively neutral, but English, character." It then gives a range of acid ranges, which can be found on the label of any packaged hop product at a brewing supply store. On two pages of the book I found a gorgeous "spider chart" that shows a variety of hop as well as a dodecagon with flavor perceptions ranging from "sweet fruits" to "citrus." It turns out that these charts are the entire content of a publication called "The Hop Aroma Compendium" - a 2-volume series which I suspect presents far more value than "For the Love of Hops" and can be yours today for the at-a-bargain price of $237 dollars US... (You won't find it on Amazon - I already looked...)

In closing, "For the Love of Hops" is written by a hop-lover who wanted to share his stories and experiences in the world of brewing, and that's great if you're looking for a trip through history and would like to hear some stories from big-name breweries such as Sierra Nevada, Russian River, and Samuel Adams. If however you're looking to improve your own brewing abilities by learning more about the potential and power of the almighty Humulus Lupulus, I'm afraid you'll have to continue your search elsewhere.

A good read to learn about hops

While some might expect a similar read to YEAST, the reality is hops and yeast are utilized differently in brewing, and the type of practical advice for these two very different ingredients is also going to vary quite a bit.

While yeast is an actual living organism, and can be manipulated quite a bit, the variability with hops is primarily accomplished through horticulture. This book does a nice job providing a background on where hops come from, lineage of various varieties, and overall just smartens the reader on what hops are. The practical knowledge gained from this reading is through familiarity. If you used a certain hop, and aware of its characteristics, you can glean information about other hops by seeing how they are related. I agree with other reviewers that YEAST has a lot more hands-on advice, though.
